Do one thing each day that scares you. A quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. A motto I try to live by as often as possible. This painting was SO UGLY IT SCARED ME! I locked myself into my studio and determined to work until it was beautiful. I pulled out my linolium blocks (which I had owned for over ten years but never used because I might mess them up!) I pulled out Guache (opaque watercolors) from who knows how long ago and utilized them. I pressed and pressed and pressed and this is what evolved. It is different from my other work, yes, but I LIKE IT! I feel it. The figures are all made from the same image (we are all created in the iamge of God) yet each is unique. Some have exposed hearts. Some have hearts hidden by abundance. Some figures are strong, some are almost hidden. The battlefield is our hearts. God looks after our hearts. It is our hearts that the enemy is out to destroy and if he can't destroy our hearts then to paralyze them. I really like this image. It is representative of a season so many of us have passed through recently. God has made soemthing beautiful from something ugly. And always I try to remember that beauty and pretty are NOT the same thing. This is a beautiful painting.
